About
Our work, mission, history, & leadership
SAFE Housing, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that focuses on preserving existing homes in our communities through essential home repairs, weatherization, and hazard remediation. Through our repair programs, we aim to prevent displacement, reduce the risk of injuries and illnesses, lower utility costs through energy-efficient solutions, and enable residents to age in place safely and independently.
We’re on a mission to improve housing conditions for low-income homeowners struggling to afford repairs.
History
SAFE Housing, Inc. was established in 2012 to address substandard housing conditions in our community. Since 2016, grant funding from the Maryland Energy Administration has enabled our organization to conduct weatherization services and home repairs for over 2,700 low-income residents throughout Maryland.
In 2023, we expanded our service area to Pennsylvania, thanks to grants from private foundations, the USDA, and HUD. With this funding, we can address address habitability and safety concerns in Adams County, Pennsylvania.
While we strive to assist all income-eligible homeowners expressing interest in our services, it's important to note that our funding sources dictate both our target recipients and the specific areas in Pennsylvania and Maryland where we can carry out our work.
